After a tiring journey, we reached our homestay in Shego with plans to sleep through the evening and return at night for the Milky Way. We knew the Spiti River flowed behind the homestay, so we decided to take a short stroll and perhaps catch the sunset.
The owner said it was barely 100 metres away. After crossing a few fields, rocky patches and small rivulets, we began hearing the soothing sound of flowing water. And then the landscape opened up before us.
The Spiti River flowed through a vast stony landscape, surrounded by mountains, with distant snow-covered peaks perfectly framing one particular spot. I checked my phone to see where the Milky Way would be later that night.
It would rise directly above those peaks.
We photographed the foreground during blue hour, and the scene was already beautiful. Despite the cold, we knew we had to return.
Later that night, wrapped in our winter gear, we came back. The Milky Way now stretched majestically above the flowing Spiti River, exactly where we had imagined it.
Sometimes, the most beautiful locations are not the ones we plan to find. They are the ones we simply happen to stumble upon.
And sometimes, all it takes is a little curiosity to discover a scene where the silent voices of Earth meet the whisper of stars.
